Louisiana's SCA program is a wonderful, innovative approach to supporting students and schools, providing MFP funding to expand learning opportunities in several areas, including:

  • Career and technical preparation, supporting the Jump Start program

  • Academic work required to achieve TOPS

  • Advanced coursework not available at the school due to limited resources

  • Intensive remediation for students struggling to stay on pace for graduation

Village Virtual and its Career Campus program have been serving students in this state-led program in Louisiana since the program's inception in 2013.  As a result of this service, students in the rural areas of St. Landry Parish, St. James Paris, St. Mary Parish and others have had access to advanced math and science courses, including AP courses, and two years of foreign language instruction in Spanish and French as well as American Sign Language and Latin.  Students at charter schools from D'Arbonne Woods in Union Parish to Baton Rouge and New Orleans have connected their students to First Responder, Nursing, Entrepreneurship, Marking & Customer Service, Environmental Science, and many other core and career tech electives in the absence of a teacher or sufficient numbers of students to support these courses in their local schools.


Jump Start

Supporting students in various Jump Start pathways has been a particularly exciting part of our work with Louisiana schools for the past two years.  Career Campus offers courses across all sixteen career clusters, including more than a dozen universal and career readiness courses that support every Jump Start pathway.  Career Campus supports the acquisition of Industry Based Credentials in a number of areas, including robust support for the Micro-Enterprise pathway with course work and exam prep for the following credentials:

  • Entrepreneurship (BRAC Regional Micro-Enterprise credential)

  • Marketing and Customer Service (National Retail Federation's Customer Sales & Service exam)

  • Introduction to Business Computer Applications (Microsoft Office credential)
